When most people think of consulting they think of some industry that is specialized like a business, accounting consultant or an inspirational speaker. But what about the young woman who puts on her makeup flawlessly everyday? The one that everyone seems to notice. Could she consult a bride on make up preparation for her wedding day or the local cheerleading team about the proper commercial makeup to use during football season so that pretty faces can be seen from a distance. Could she consult on skin care? What are you good at? Start talking about it.

2. Marketing – That’s how I got started with my business and I started it for free. For years I’d been giving people marketing advice. My husband came to me one day and said, “You need to stop doing that for free. Why not start a business.” Can you turn you that 10,000 followers that you’ve gained on Twitter as a lead generator for someone that needs marketing their project? Can you show people simple tips that can help them to bring visibility to their projects? Can you teach internet marketing?

3. Interior Design – Is that creative side of you waiting to burst out? Why not hang your shingles on design. These days there are hundreds of places to take classes to learn the professional elements of design. These courses don’t take years to complete. If you watch HGTV everyday and wish you were in that world, give it a shot.

4. Tutor – You don’t need to know everything about a subject in order to tutor. You just need to know a lot more than the person that needs help. At one point in my life I tutored students for $45 for an hour session. It was done on my schedule and I didn’t have to leave my home to do it. It was probably one of the most rewarding things that I’ve ever done.

5. Freelance – If you’ve got excellent writing skills you can freelance. People need others to write copy for websites, write training manuals, resumes, proposals or even write short novels. There are tons of things that you can write and get paid for it.
