The Warrior, military fiction written by Phillip Davidson is a book that will separate serious readers from those who want “fast food” book entertainment.  It is a tribute to the military.  But not in a way that you would think.  It is not a tale of war heroes and giants on the battlefield as we find with most military books.  Instead it depicts a graphic, realistic account of war and its casualties to life in general.  No one ever returns from war the same way that they left and Davidson pulls back the covers on what society often sweeps under the rug.  That would be the plight of military men and women that failed their mission and return to civilian life broken and dysfunctional. Phil Davidson is a client, he did not ask or pay me to write this review. I am writing this review because I love the book and it has captured my attention.

You might ask why would anyone want to read such a sad story?  Well, it doesn’t end there.  It’s really about second chances, redemption and regaining what you’ve lost in a most unusual way.  It is a story of loyalty, not just loyalty but unconditional loyalty.  That type of loyalty is developed only by the unique bond of brotherhood that military men and women have with one another.  Unconditional loyalty is the truest kind of “I’ve got your back.”  Faced with the overwhelming scars left on these warriors lives, they felt compelled to submit themselves to battle again under the influence of a very spiritual, yet mystical character name Keaton.  They are sent to the ends of the earth to rescue a woman in an Argentinian prison cell.  The woman happens to be the wife of one of the team members.  Through this harrowing journey they become warriors again and risk all for the brotherhood.

If you like action, intense military drama, intrigue, love and sacrifice then you will absolutely turn every page of The Warrior and absorb it like I did.  I wrote this review because I believe in the message. The story is gritty as you would expect in a war book, but is highly redemptive.  It is an exceptional book filled with a hair raising plot, realistic writing that makes you feel that you are living the life of the characters, lots of twists, and unbelievable conflict.  This book is not for the faint hearted nor those who can’t get into a deep read.  This is a book that you have to use your mind to follow and it’s not pretty.  It’s real and intriguing.   If you can do that, you are in for a hell of a ride. I would certainly rate this book as a 5 star.
